Will of William Maplesden of Rotherfield

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Maplesden of the Parish of Rotherfield in the county of Sussex Yeoman touching the disposition of such Temporal Estate as it hath pleased Almighty God of his goodness to bestow upon me as follows First I order and direct that all my just Debts Funeral Expences and the Charges of proving this my Will be paid by my Executor hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give devise and bequeath unto my dear Wife Ann Mapleden All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Buildings Lands Hereditaments and Premises thereto belonging situate lying and being in Rotherfield aforesaid and now in my own Occupation And also all other my Real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever To hold to her my said Wife Anne Maplesden and her Assignes for and during the Term of her natural life And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife Ann Maplesden I give and devise and bequeath all my said Messuage or Tenement Lands Hereditaments and Real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my nephew Benjamin Corke of Rotherfield aforesaid Farmer (Son of my late Brother in Law William Corke) To have and to hold to him the said Benjamin Corke his Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the Payment of the Leagacies hereinafter mentioned that is to say I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Ezra Maplesden (Son of my late Brother Samuel Maplesden) the Legacy or Sum of fifteen pounds Also I give bequeath unto my two Nephews George Arnold and William Arnold (Sons of my Sister Elizabeth Arnold Widow) the like Legacy or Sum of fifteen Pounds each Also I give and bequeath unto James Corke (Son of my Nephew William Corke of Rotherfield aforesaid Farmer) the like Legacy or sum of fifteen Pounds Also I give and bequeath unto John Corke (Son of my Nephew John Corke of Rotherfield aforesaid Farmer) the like Legacy or sum of fifteen Pounds Also I give and bequeath unto Obediah Corke (Son of my said Nephew Benjamin Corke) the like Legacy or sum of fifteen Pounds the said several Legacies to be paid unto them severally and respectively by my Executor bereinafter named immediately after the Expiration of one Year after the Decease of my said Wife Ann Maplesden And I do hereby charge and subject all my aforesaid Messuage or Tenement Lands Hereditaments and Real Estate with the payment of the said Legacies accordingly Also I give and bequeath unto my said Nephew Benjamin Corke all and singular my Personal Estate and Effects (after payment of my just Debts Funeral Expences and the Charges of proving this my Will) whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever To hold to him the said Benjamin Corke his Executors Administrators and Assigns Upon this special Trust and Confidence nevertheless that is to say that he my said Trustee his Executors or Administrators do and shall as soon as convenient after my Decease sell and disprove whereof and call in and receive all such Debts Sum or Sums of Money as shall be due or owing to me at the time of my Death and place the Monies (William Maplesden) arising by such Sale or Disposal and the Moneys so to be called in and received upon Government or other good and sufficient Security in his or their Names and in such manner as he or they shall think proper And also in Trust that he or they do and shall receive the Interest and Dividend thereof from time to time as the same shall become payable and pay the same unto my said Wife Ann Maplesden during the Term of her natural Life Provided nevertheless that if the Interest arising from the Funds and Security in which my said Personal Estate shall have been invested as aforesaid should not amount to the Sum of Ten Pounds a Year then it is my Will and I do hereby order and direct that my said Trustee his Executors or Administrators do take such a part of the Principal Money arising from my Personal Estate as shall together with the Dividens and Interest arising theirfrom amount to the Sum of Ten Pounds a Year and pay the same to my said Wife during the Term of her natural Life And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and bequeath the Residue of my said Personal Estate or the Funds or Securities in which the same shall have been invested equally share and share alike unto and amongst the several persons herein before mentioned (namely) Ezra Maplesden, George Arnold, William Arnold, James Corke, John Corke, Obediah Corke, and my said Trustee Benjamin Corke to and for their own Use and Benefit And I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my said Trustee the said Benjamin Corke sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said William Maplesden the Testator have to this my Will contained in two Sheets of Paper set my Hand at the bottom of the first Sheet and my Hand and Seal to this second and last Sheet this 6th day of December in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty eight William Maplesden (LS)

The Will of William Maplesden late of Rotherfield within the Archdeaconry of Lewes Yeoman deceased was proved the twenty first day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty Before the Revered Anthony Nott Clerk Surrogate and so forth Upon the Oath of Benjamin Corke the sole Executor in the said Will named To whom was committed the Administration of the Goods etc He being first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same and so forth Sworn also that the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased do not amount in Value unto One hundred Pounds.
