Will of Roger Philip of Graffham

In the name of god amen I Roger Philip of Graffham in the county of Sussex Tyler frail in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to god. I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followth. I bequeath my soul to god my creator and my body to the earth t be decently buried. I give and bequeath unto my sonne Roger my house I dwell with all out houses there unto pertaining the stall and the stable I give unto him also and of plough lands being west of the house in Graffham and twenty pounds of money my will is that my son Roger shall not have the house and lands until the demise of his mother and the twenty pounds to be paid at her decision. I give unto my sonne Richard Philip my house and lands ralled bull being now in the occupation of Thomas Joy and the stall and stable to bot

Further all the things of my executor I give to my son Raphe my house ralled champions with all appointments hereto and twenty pounds in money. My will is that my sons Richard and Ralph shall not have their houses and lands until after the death of their mother and the twenty pounds to be paid unto my son Ralph at her decision provided that if Ann my wife married a second husband then my will is that every of my sones shall have their monies paid unto them when they shall expire the age of one and twenty. From my will is that my executor shall not move the stall and stables up on my land ralled bull within four years of my demise. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth twenty pounds. I give unto my daughter Ann twenty pounds. My will is the Elizabeth and Ann should have ten pounds apiece paid unto them on their days of marriage and the other ten to be paid after the death of my wife if she abide a widow otherwise to be paid to them at her day of marriage. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth one feather bed one bolster two blankets and one ?and a pair of sheets to be delivered to her on her day of marriage. I give unto my daughter Ann three pair of sheets to be delivered to her on her day of marriage. I give unto Ann my wife all the rest of my goods monies chattels unbequeathed whom I make my sole executor of this my last will and testament to pay all my debts duties and legacies. I appoint Thomas Allen and Thomas Cross overseers of this my last will and testament and for this I paid them four shillings apiece.

The eighteen day of March in the year of our lord one thousand six hundred and fifty two

This will was proved at Westminster on the two and twentieth day of September in the year of our lord 1653.
