In the name of God amen. The eighteenth October 1608. I Richard Cooke of Goring in the county of Sussex Yeoman fail in body but of perfect memory thanks be given to god therefore. I make my last will and testaments in manner and form following. I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of god my creator and unto his spirit my ? . I give my body to be buried in the church of Goring. More for this was unto before my fate arise, equally was what to befit this for to be done by Peter Cooke my youngest sonne I make my sole executor guardian. For this I give and bequeath unto John Cooke this sonne until this sonne is grown. All things from the hall, all things from the parlour, all things from the great chamber above the parlour, all things in the chamber above the hall, all things in the chamber above the kitchen (for profit only ?)

I give and bequeath unto Walter Cooke my sonne ? and citizen of London eighteen pounds. I give and bequeath unto William Cooke my sonne ? in London eighteen pounds to be paid unto him upon reaching full age of twenty and one years. I give unto Ann Cooke my daughter eighteen pounds. I give unto Mary Cooke my daughter now the wife of Thomas Ward twelve pounds. I give unto Elizabeth Ward the daughter of my said daughter Mary forty shillings. I give unto John Gittens, Thomas Gittens, Elizabeth Gittens, Margaret Gittens and Mary Gittens the sonnes and daughters of Jane Gittens of Bignor that is to pay John, Thomas, Elizabeth and Mary forty shillings apiece and Margaret four pounds. I give unto Robert Cooke my son George’s youngest forty shillings. I give unto Ann, Jane and Joane Dobson daughters of Richard Dobson of Walberton ten shillings apiece. I give unto my daughter in laws for everyone five shillings apiece. I give unto the poor of Ferring five shillings. I give unto the poor of Goring five shillings. I give unto George Gorringe my ? ring. I give unto ? Wright my ? gold ring. I give unto William Smith vicar of Goring my dagger and I give unto George William ten shillings for this my last will and testament. I give and bequeath to Thomas Gittens my son in law and to his wife for all that my right title and interest of all by ought to have by virtue of conveyance made unto him by William Parry. I give to my son in law Thomas Gittens of Bignor all profits and benefits of my premises given and bequeath before unto Nathan Cooke my son for care, for Nathan Cooke to reach full age of twenty and one years and should it happen that Nathan should die before aforesaid age my will and wanting are that the paid eighteen pounds before given be equally shared among Walter, Ann, Mary and Peter my sons and daughters. and my will be that the said Thomas Gittens my son in law shall have all benefit and profit of four pounds of the eighteen pounds. And if my son Peter happens to die before complete full age of one and twenty years, then my will be that monies to the part and portion from monies remain all equally divided among my children there living and of my goods not given I give and bequeath unto Peter Cooke my son. I make my sole executor of this my last will and testament and sign before George Luxford and John Barnard of Court to be my witnesses of this my last will
