Whitehall, April 10, 1799. The King has been pleased to give and grant unto Philip Shelley, Esq; (Second Son of Bylshe Shelley, of Castle-Goring, in the County of Sussex, Esq; by Elizabeth Jane, his Wife, only Child that left Issue of William Perry, of Penshurst-Place, in the County of Kent, Esq; and of Elizabeth Sidney, his Wife, Granddaughter, and at length sole Heir of Robert Sidney, Earl of Leicester, ) His Royal Licence and Authority, that he and his Issue may, out of grateful Respect to the Memory of his said Grandmother, assume and take the Surname of Sidney, instead of that of Shelley, and bear the Arms of Sidney such Arms being first duly exemplified according to the Laws of Arms, and recorded in the Heralds'-Office : And also to order that His Majesty's said Concession and Declaration be registered in His College of Arms.
