Will of Simon Durrant of Fittleworth

In the name of God Amen I Simon Durrant of Fittleworth in ye County of Sussex dyer beinge sick & weake in body but of sound & pfect memory & remembrance praised bee God therefore, doe make & ordaine this my last will & Testamt in manner & form followinge that is to say. First I give & bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my heavenly Father hopeinge & assuredly trustinge in & through the meritts & mediacon of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeem’r to receive free pardon & forgivenesse of all my sins & eternall blisse in his eternall & ev’lasting Kingdome and as to the disposal of such worldly estate it hath pleased Almighty God to endow mee withall I give & dispose of them in mann’ & forme followinge that is to say. First I give & bequeath unto my son Wil: Durrant ye sum of forty shills to bee pd unto him when hee shall attaine to ye age of one & twenty yeares. Alsoe I give & bequeath unto my son Michaell Durant the sum of forty shills to bee pd unto him when hee shall attaine the age of one & twenty yeares. Alsoe I give & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Durrant ye sum of forty shills to be paid unto her when she shall attaine to ye age of one & twenty yeares. Itm I give & bequeath unto my daughter Mary Durrant ye sum of forty shills to bee paid unto her when shee shall attaine to the age of one & twenty yeares. Alsoe I give & bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Durrant ye sum of forty shills to bee paid unto her when shee shall attaine to the age of one & twenty yeares. All ye rest residue and remainder of my goods chattells & p’sonall estate I hereby give & bequeath unto my son John Durrant & my daughter Dorothy Durrant whom I make joynt ex’tors of this my last Will & Testamt in trust & confidence that they my ex’tors will p’vide for my three smallest children that is Eliza’, Mary & Sarah all things necessary untill such time as they shalbee sev’ally able to p’vide for themselves out of my said goods chattels & p’sonall estate the same beinge my will intent & meaninge. And I doe hereby make constitute & appoynt & desire Richard Cooper of Gretham in ye sd County ...?, Francis Upfeild of Fittleworth aforesaid taylor, Tho Sheppard of Fittleworth aforesaid mercer & Thomas Rauwsford of Gretham aforesaid to be ov’seers of this my last will & Testamt to the intent that if any difference shall att any time hereafter happen to arise between my said ex’tors about ye division of my said goods & chattles or about ye p’videinge for my three small children or any other way concerninge this my said Will my will intent & meaninge is that such difference as shall or may hereafter soe happen to bee betweene my said ex’tors shalbee decided on ye orders of my said ov’seers or ye majorit of them. In witnesse whereof I the said Simon Durrant have hereunto sett my hand & seale ye 28th day of October in ye five & thirtieth year of ye Reigne of our So’aigne Lord Charles ye second by the grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland Kinge defender of ye faith &c Anoq Dni 1683. Read signed sealed & declared by the sd Simon Durrant to bee his last will & Testamt in the p’sence of us William Batchelour; Henry Hill; William Franklin.

(Latin) Proved before the Rev Thomas Briggs, Doctor of Laws &c 19 November 1683 by John & Dorothy Durrant the natural son and daughter of the deceased & the executors named in the Will.
