Will of William Budgen of West Hoathly

In the name of God Amen

William Budgen of Westhoathly in the county of Sussex yeoman. Being sick and weak in body but of sound disposing mind and memory praised be God do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

That is to say first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as touching such temporal estate wherewith it hath pleased almighty God to bless me I give and dispose thereof as follows.

First I give and bequeath unto my oldest son William Budgen the sum of two shillings and six pence.

Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anne the wife of George Holman the sum of two shillings and sixpence.

Also I give and bequeath unto my son in Law John Young of West Hoathly aforesaid Hoopmaker the sum of two shillings and six pence which said several legacys or sums of money I will and order shall be paid to the said respective legatees within six months after my decease.

Also I give devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Budgen his heirs and assigns all that my freehold mesouage or Tenement Buildings Gardens and appaurtenances thereto belonging wherein I now dwell and situate in Westhoathly aforesaid.

Also I give devise and bequeath unto him my said son Thomas Budgenhis heirs assigns all that piece or parcel of ffreehold land containing by estimation one acre and a quarter more or less adjoining to the lands of Sir Jospeh Peake on the which and to the Kings Highway leading from Turners Hill to Horsted Green on the west now in my own occupation and which I purchased of my Brother Richard Budgen and is situate lying and being in the parish of Westhoathly aforesaid to hold to him my said son Thomas Budgen his heirs and assigns for ever.

Also I thereby give and bequeath unto him my said son Thomas Budgen all my –-ad, money, securitys -ordmoney stock husbandry Tackling household Goods wearing apparel and all other my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and lastly I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint him my said son Thomas Budgen full and sole executor of this my Will paying all my just debts funerall expenses and probate thereof In witness thereof I the said William Budgen have to this my last will and testament contained in these sheets of paper to each sheet set my hand and to the last my seal this twenty ninth day of January in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty. Wm Budgen Esq. Signed sealed published and declared by the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other –owd Collis, Nicholas Allpullis, John Stone.

On the seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord on thousand seven hundred and eighty three Administration with the will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of William Budgen late of West Hoathly in the county of Sussex deceased was granted to Ann Savidge widow and creditrix by bond of the said deceased she having been first sworn duly to administer Thomas Budge the son of the said deceased and sole executor and residuary legatee named in the said will having first renounced as well the execution thereof as letters of administration with the said will annexed of the goods of the said deceased.
