In the name of our god amen :- the sixth day of March in the year of our lord god one thousand six hundred forty and two. I John Bartholomew in the parish of Worth in the county of Sussex Hammerman being sick and weak of body but of good and perfect memory god be praised do hereby ordained and make my last will and testament in manner and following that is to say I bequeath my soul unto almighty god my creator and redeemer and my body to be buried in the churchyard at Worth afore said. I give unto my son John Bartholomew my sonne ten pounds of lawful of Endlands money that is to said five pounds of this from my hand and five pounds to him from John Young upon bond I give unto Thomas Penfold ten pounds due unto him from Nicholas Brounty upon bond. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Bartholomew ten pounds that is to say this ten pounds that is due unto her from John Blake then I give unto John Harwood my son in law four pounds of lawfull money of England and to the children of the said John Harwood three pounds apiece with five pounds due to me from the people hereafter mentioned that is to say five pounds from William Nyman and Robert Brookes and five pounds from Richard Rowland and my mind and will is that whereas the aforesaid is to be taken of the ? from when it is done that the ? of all the said legal fund of money that shall be due before the second day of May I shall commit unto Joane my wife and that then shall unto ? of the said ? interest then due shall ? the legall bonds to be ? to whom they do belong aforesaid.

And the gift of my goods ? and chattels afore not bequeathed my debts paid and my funeral discharged I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Joane whom I ordain and make executor of this my last will and testament. Provided that my executor do happen to be married after my demise and have not give by me that then shall pay unto my four named that is John Bartholomew Thomas Penfold Elizabeth Bartholomew and John Harwood six pounds apiece on her day of marriage and if she shall happen to be any child by me begotten then my mind and will is that thirty pounds to be employed to benefit the said child and should it reach the full age of one and twenty and then this to be paid unto them and I say that fourty shillings spent and used for my burial and I leave my loving friend John Young to be overseer of this my last will and testament to be preformed and being allowed for six changed and payed to be taken herein. I hereby revoke all former wills by me made and this is my preferred will. Witnessed hereof my hand and seal in the form of those named and underwritten.
