Will of Thomas Durrant of Frant

In the name of God Amen the fowerteenth daie of December in the yeare of our Lord God one thowsand six hundred fifty and seaven. I Thomas Durrant of Frant in the County of Sussex blacksmith being weake of body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks and praise be given to Allmighty God therefore doe make and declare this my last will and Testam’t in manner and forme followeing (that is to say) First and principally I will and bequeath my soule unto Allmighty God my mercifull maker who of his endles goodnes gave me my being. And of his infinite goodnes and mercy vouchsafed to redeeme me by the death and passion of his deare sonne our Saviour Jesus Christ in whose only meritts is my last repose. And my body to the earth from whence it came & decently to be buried in Christian buriall. Item I give and bequeath unto Mary my eldest daughter the some of twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my executors when she the said Mary shall attayne to the full age of one and twenty yeares and also one bedd furnished with one payre of sheets and also one cubberd they being in my now dwelling howse. Also I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my daughter the some of twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to be likewise paid unto her by my executors when she the said Eliz: shall accomplish her full age of one and twenty yeares. And also one bedd furnished and one payre of sheets and alsoe one ioyned chest also I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Wickham the daughter of Thomas Wickham of Uckfeild being my brother in lawe the some of tenn shillings of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my executors within one whole yeare next after my decease. This is the last will and testament of me the said Thomas Durrant made and declared the day and yeare first above written concerning the setling and establishing of my lands and tenements. Item I give & bequeath unto William Durrant my eldest sonne my house and lands wth all and singular the appurtennces scituate lyeing and being in Bucksted in the County aforesaid to have hold and enioy the same to him and his heires for ever according to the custome of the Mannor. And also I give unto him one cubbord a bedstedle a table and a forme in the same howse. Item whereas there is forty pounds now in the hands of Thomas Cripps of Retherfeild my very will and minde is that the said Thomas Cripps shall keepe the said forty pounds in his hands and to pay the use thereof yearely unto my executors hereafter named untill the said Mary and Elizabeth my daughters doe accomplish their severall ages of one and twenty yeares and then the said Thomas Cripps his executors admin’ators or assignes to pay the said some of forty pounds of lawfull money of England unto the said Mary and Elizabeth my two daughters at their severall ages of one and twenty yeares according to the true intent and meaneing of this my last will and testament and I doe ordayne and make Joane my wiefe and Thomas my youngest sonne my executors of this my last will and testament bynding them to pay my debts and legacies and funerall expences. And I doe entreat my loveing brother Edward Durrant and my loveing uncle Oliver Miles to be my overseers of this my last will and testament to see the same performed and fulfilled. In witnes whereof this to be my last will and testament I the said Thomas Durrant the testator have hereto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written and it is enterlyned at two places before the sealeing hereof. This Will was proved at London the sixteenth daie of Aprill one thowsand six hundred fifty eight before the Judges for probate of wills & granting admon’acons lawfully authorised by the oath of Joane Durrant the relict and executrix, to whom was comitt’d admin’acon she being first sworne by Comission truly to administer. power nevertheless being reserved to Thomas Durrant the sonne and the other executor &c to have lake admin’acon granted and comitted to him when he shall come in a legall manner require the same.
