Location: The Pelton guide for Tunbridge Wells (1896) describes this stone as being near the spot where are the remains of a turret stair to the former rood loft of the abbey church.

Inscription:

Ele de Sackville, Daughter of Ralph de Dene, Founded
this Priere in honour of St Marie, in the reign of K.
Richard ye First. The ground was given bye Syre Richard
de Thorneham. The Praemonstratensian Canons of Brock-
ley, with those of Beavliev were incorporated and placed
here, and their Charters were confirmed by King John,
K. Henrie III., and K. Edw. II. It was dissolved in
the Reign of K. Henry VIII.
