Will of John Langridge of East Grinstead

THIS IS THE LAST WILL and testament of me John Langridge of East Grinstead in the County of Sussex, Yeoman first I will order and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be fully paid and satisfied by my executors and trustees hereafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and I give and bequeath unto my housekeeper Ann [-------] the sum of thirty pounds to be paid her within six months after my decease by my executors and trustees hereafter named also I give and devise unto my son Edward Langridge of Saint Albans in the County of Staffordshire [--------] and draper and my friend Edward [Stead?] of East Grinstead in the said County of Sussex, Inn Holder their heirs and assigns all all that my freeholds, messuages or tenement buildings garden hereditaments and premises with appurtenances situate in the town of East Grinstead aforesaid and now in my occupation and my tenants John Sergeant and Ann Edwards Widow to hold the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of them the said Edward Langridge and Edward [Stead?] their heirs and assigns forever upon trust nevertheless that they the said trustees or the survivor of them or the heirs or assigns of such survivors so and shall within six months after my death sell and absolutely dispose of the aforesaid freehold messuage or tenement building garden hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances by public auction or private [-------] as to them shall seem expedient for the best price or prices in money that can be reasonably had or obtained for the same respectively and respectively convey the same accordingly and I will and declare that the receipt or receipts of the said trustees and the survivor of them or the heirs or assigns of such survivor for the money for which the same shall be respectively sold shall be a sufficient discharge or sufficient discharges to the purchase or purchases of the afore said hereditaments and premises hereinbefore mad saleable by this my Will or any part or parts thereof for his her their purchase money or so [until] thereof as shall be therein acknowledged or expressed to be received by them and that such purchase or purchases his her their heirs Executors Administrators or assigns or any of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any loss misapplication or misapplications of such purchase money so received or any part or parts thereof and my will further is that the monies which shall arise by or from such sale as aforesaid shall after payment of all expenses allowing the same be equally divided between my two sons namely the said Edward Langridge and my son John Langridge share and share alike also I give and bequeath unto my said son Edward Langridge and the said Edward [ Stead?] all my household goods and furniture of every description plate linen chinaware books prints statues household utensils liquors stock in trade and all of my personal effects which shall at my death be in or about the said messuage or tenement wherein I now live and in the outbuildings thereto belonging or any of them to hold the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of them the said Edward Langridge and Edward [Stead?] their executors or administrators upon trust that they the said trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such survivor do and shall within six months of my death sell and dispose of the aforesaid articles by public auction or private [-------] as to[them?] or [--------] shall seem expedient for making the most money of the same and my will further is that the monies which shall arise by or how such sale or sales as aforesaid after payment of all expenses attending the same my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the legacy hereinbefore bequeathed by me to be equally divided between my said sons namely the said Edward Langridge and John Langridge share and share alike and I give and bequeath all the REST and RESIDUE of my personal estate ready money book debts and securities for money subject also to or towards the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and legacy having before given unto my said two sons the said Edward Langridge and John Langridge share and share alike and I do hereby make ordain institute and appoint my said son Edward Langridge and the said Edward [Stead?] EXECUTORS and trustees of this my last Will and Testament and also that it shall and may be lawful for my said executors and trustees their or either of them shall or may sustain bear pay suffer or expend in the performance of this my Will or in anyway relating thereto And also hereby revoking all former and other Will or Wills by me at anytime heretobefore made I declare this and this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament IN WITNESS whereof I the said John Langridge the testator have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in these sheets of paper set my hand and seal that is to say to the first two sheets thereof set my hand and to this the third sheet set my hand and seal this Twenty seventh day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred
