Will of John Langridge of East Grinstead

In the name of God Amen the thirtieth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand six hundred and eighty John Langridge of East Grinstead in the County of Sussex weaver being sick in body but of good and perfect mind and memory ( praise be to God for the same) do make and ordain this my Testament and last Will in manner and form following first and principally commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my sanctifier and preserver in and through whose merits I hope enjoy everlasting life; and my body to the earth from whence it came to be in decent manner buried in the parish churchyard of East Grinstead by my executor hereafter named Item I give and bequeath and devise unto my wellbeloved wife Alice Langridge all that my lands lying in East Grinstead with the appurtenances commonly called by the name of Meekslands and Slowfield or by what name or names soever known or called which I lately purchased of George Drewery to her and her heirs forever Item I give more unto my wellbeloved wife All that my messuage and backsides [yards] with appurtenances thereunto belonging which I now live in lying in East Grinstead aforesaid to her and her heirs forever Item I give and bequeath unto my brother Humphrey Langridge the sum of forty shillings to be paid unto him one year next after my decease by executor hereafter named Item I give and bequeath unto my maidservant Joan Wicking the sum of forty shillings to be paid unto her within one year next after my decease Item I give more unto my loving wife all my goods debts credits and chattels whatsoever and do make and ordain my loving wife full and whole Executor and Executrix of this my last will and testament paying my debts and legacies and do desire my loving friends Francis Lindly and John Wicking both of the same parish overseers to this my Testament and last will fulfilled and I will that whatsoever charge shall be at shall be paid them by my executor and I do forever renounce and make void all former will or wills ever made by me and do publish and declare this my true intent meaning and last will witness my hand and seal the day and year above written the mark of John Wicking Sealed and signed and declared to be the last testament and will of John Langridge before us the mark of Ann Saxpy the Mary Cripps Henry Colgate John Wicking
