Will of Mary Brooker of Worth

In the name of God Amen the sixth day of May in the year of our Lord 1720 I Mary Brooker of the parish of Worth in the County of Sussex scoolldame & seller of small wares being in reasonable good health & of pfect mind and memory thanks be given to God therefore but calling unto mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give & recommend my soule into the hands of God that gave it & for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like & decent manner at the discrecon of my executors nothing doubting but at the generall resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise & dispose of the same in the following manner and forme. Imprimis I give and bequeath to my cousen Mary Wood daughter of Simon Wood deceased my house and backside with all its appurtenances & also one trunk and all my wearing apparell only she paying out of it to my three cousens Anne Wood, Mary Wood and Margarett Wood daughters of William Wood deced the summ of three pounds to whom I give & bequeath to every one of them the sume of twenty shillings but if it shall so happen that the said Mary should die having no heirs of her own body begotten then I give & bequeath the said house and backside to her brother William Wood and to his heirs forever. Secondly in order to fullfill my late husbands Will my will intent and purpose is that what money my ready money household goods book debts & creditts shall and will amount to when my debts are paid funerall expences and probate of my Will and all other charge my executors shall be at pforming & executing their trust according to the tenure and true intent of this my last Will and Testament be by them wholly paid and discharged that the money that shall remain over and above the aforesaid charge be then divided into two equall parts & the one moiety or half part I give & bequeath to the seven children of William Burley late of Eastgrinsted my late husbands brother in law to be divided in even & equall parts between and to every one of them. Item the other moiety or half part I give and dispose of as followeth. First I give and bequeath to Mr Benjamin Chandler, Minister the summ of five pounds. Item I give and bequeath six pounds to Robert Burley sonn of Robert Burley deced but if the said Robert shall die before he shall be arrived to the age of twenty and one years then I give and bequeath it to his two brothers and his sister to be equally divided between the said three. Item the remainder (except twenty shillings) I give & bequeath to such poor widows as are constant hearers of Mr Chandler & to buy Bibles for poor children to be disposed of at the discrecon of my executors. Item I give and bequeath to Mr James Tulley and Nathaniell Pryor both of Eastgrinsted the summ of tenn shillings each over and above the charge they shall be at in executing their trust whom I constitute make and ordaine sole executors of this my last Will and Testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all other Wills and testaments by me heretofore made whatsoever ratefying and confirming this and no other to be my very last Will and testament. In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seall the day and year first above written. Mary Booker [sic]
