Will of Jane Elliott of Henfield

In the name of God Amen. I Jane Elliott of Henfield in the County of Sussex widow being frail of body but of good and perfect memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following. First I bequeath my soul into the hands of God my father hoping through the majesty of my Saviour Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness of all sins and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish church of Henfield. And as to my wordly estate I dispose of it in manner following. I give, devise, bequeath unto my son Richard Elliott six pounds of lawful money of England. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane, now wife of Nicholas Wood, six pounds of lawful money of England. Also I give and devise unto my daughter Jone now wife of John Dean six pounds of lawful money of England. Also I give and devise unto my daughter Mary Elliott six pounds of lawful money of England. All which legacies my will and meaning so shall be paid by my executors hereafter named within three months next after my decease. Also I give and devise unto my grandchild Nicholas Wood son of Nicholas Wood twenty shillings. Also I give and devise unto Mary Wood daughter of the said Nicholas Wood forty shillings and my roll? ? ? ? Also I give and devise unto my grandchild John Elliott son of John Elliott deceased foure shillings. Also I give and devise unto Mary Elliott my grandchild daughter of Richard Elliott tenne shillings. After I give and devise unto John Deans my grandchild son of John Deans tenne shillings. All which last mentioned legacies my will and meaning is shall be paid by my executors hereafter named three months after my decease to the parents of each particular legator or child and by this ? majority of ? ? legator to be paid to ? ? legator or child of ? all ? sums as ? child or legator shall attain or come to the age of one and twenty years . And afore that then the said parents of each particular child shall pay unto each ? child of their interest of each ? ? and above the legacy is ?. Also I give and devise unto my daughter Jane now wife of Nicholas Wood one pair of hempen sheets and one pair of ? sheets and one hempen ?and four tablecloths ? ? ? And unto Mary Elliott my daughter one pair of hempen sheets and one pair of ? sheets, one hempen table cloth, one flaxen pillow? and one ? ? ? and unto Joan my daughter now wife of John Deans one pair of hempen sheets, one ? table cloth and one hempen pillow? and unto my son Richard Elliott our bedstead and old feather bed ? ? and old feather pillow ? of ? one blanket and two pairs of ? sheets all which ? legaries my will and meaning so shall delivered by my exectutors hereafter named one month next after my decease. All the rest of my goods and chattels my debts being paid and funeral expenses discharges I give and devise unto my daughter Sarah Elliott who I name sole executors of this my last will and testament ? I do ? my loving brother in law Richard Streater and my loving friend John Mitchell to be executors of this my last will and testament and to take upon them the execution thereof during the minority of my said daughter Sarah. And I do give unto them for their ? and ? to be taken therein foure shillings a piece.

Witnesses whereof I have hereunto ? my hand and ? and published this as my last will and testament the 18th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and fifty two. Jane Elliott her mark. Signed, sealed and published by the said Jane Elliott widow as her last will and testament in the presence of Peter Draper(?), Jane Bonniface her mark.

The 12th day of February in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty four ? ? ? to Richard Stadator(?) out of the executors named in the last will and testament of Jane Elliott late of Henfield ? county of Sussex widow deceased to administer the goods and chattels and debts of the said deceased according to the terms and effects of her ? will during the minority and to the ? ? and ? of Sarah Elliott the daughter of the said deceased and ? executrix named in the said will ? the said Richard Streator being first sworn by ? of a ? will and faithfully to administer the ?.
