With reference to the announcement of the undermentioned awards which appeared in the London Gazette of the 12th March, 1919, the following are the acts of gallantry for which, the awards were made: AWARDED A BAR TO THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL. G/5989 C. /S. /M. . J. S. Edmonds, D. C. M. , M. M. , 13th Bn. , R. Fus. (nr. Rye, Sussex). For gallantry and devotion to duty on the morning of 8th October, 1918, north of Hurtebise Farm. When the officer in charge of the leading wave was killed he immediately went forward and reorganised the line, which was somewhat shaken, under heavy rifle and machine-gun fire. He then led the leading wave forward to its first objective. He later formed a defensive flank with a platoon also under heavy fire. Throughout the day he displayed the greatest gallantry and complete disregard of personal safety. (D. C. M. gazetted 19th November, 1917).
