Inscription:

To the Glory of God and in loving memory of James Ross Gwatkin. For 29 years churchwarden of this church who gave all that he had and was to the service of his church and his town, the parishioners of Brighton in grateful remebrance of his life of devotion erected this tablet and instituted an endowment fund for the maintenance of the assistant clergy of the parish church. He passed to higher service February 3rd 1921 aged 70 years. He never made an Enemy he never lost a Friend.
