In the name of God amen The first day of ffebruary the xix yere of the Reigne of King Henry the eight and the yere of our Lord god a thousand five hundred twenty and seven I John Mastall of the parishe of Lynfelde in the Countie of Sussex yoman being hole in mynde and in good memory doe make and ordeyn this my p[rese]nt testament and last wille ffirst I bequeath my soule to almighty god and to his mother the blessed Virgin and my body to be buried in the parishe of Lynfelde aforsaid Item I bequeath to the mother Church of Mallyng xvjd Item I bequeath to the high awter of my parishe Church xvjd Item to every light within the said Church that is kept of devocion ijd Item I wille that there be bestowed in my funeral expenses xxs with mete and drynke

and so

in like maner at my moneth day and in my anniversary day. Item I wille to every oon of my children vj li xiijs iiijd yf my goodes will so ferre extende; And that to be delivered theym at the age of xxj yeres provided alwey that if any of them decease before the tyme then the oon to survive the other

And if they all faile then I will that the forsaid money and goodes be bestowed in the Church at Lynfelde aforsaid for my soule my father and mother soule and all Christian soules Item I will to my wife her Joynture of vj li xiijs iiijd by the yere and her chamber and twenty ____ in money or twenty pounds yf my goodes will therto extende Also I will that she have a certeyn of my houshold stuffe as it shalbe had by thadvice of master Bray and Sir John Sherif preest Also I will that my goodes be praised indifferently and my debts paide and my will fulfilled I will it be shifte equally amonge my children Item I will that myn executors take -- the profits and prevents of the Land which I have during the nonage of the heire of my brother Water and paye the daughters twenty pounds according to my fathers wille And the overplus that shall remain thereof I will towards the fynding of my children And if there be any soo saved I will it be shifte equally amonge them and every childes part knowen. I will that myn executors be bounde for the deliveraunce thereof Also my wille is in the bargeyn that I have of Richard Herthingeley that master Bray and Sir John Sheriff doo make an ende other by lawe or by Arbitrement

as they shall thinke best for the profite of my children Also I will that my Bargeyn with John Colyngge be kept according to the terms thereof

and all that

that shalbe made of my landes above my wifes joynture And of the landes which I have to ferme during the nonage of the Childe

I will it goe towards the fynding of my children And if there be anythinge more than their fynding I will it be shifted indiffe- rently amongste theym And if it will not fynde them nor there cannot be nonion shifte made for theym I will that they be founde with their partes as it shalbe thought best by thadvice of Master Bray and Sir John Sherif.

And all other thinge I put to their discrecions they to dispoase every thing as they thinke best Also of and in this my last will and testament I constitute and ordeyn my cosyn Sir John Sherif and my wife yf she wille take it

This is the will of John Mascall son of Richard Michelborne alias Mascall. John's wife was Etheldreda Lussher, daughter of William Lussher and Alice Sandys. Etheldreda later remarried to (first name unknown) Newdigate.
