Will of Ann Challen of Oving

Date signed: 12 Nov 1770, Probate date: ?? ??? 1780

The last Will and Testament of me Ann Challen of Shopwick in the parish of Oving in the County of Sussex widow touching on my temporal estate is and I declare the sume to be as follows (to wit) First I charge all and every my freehold copyhold and other my real estate as well as personal with the payment of my debts and subject thereto I give and devise all my freehold and copyhold messuage buildings lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances in the parish of Oving aforesaid and now in my own occupation (the copyhold part having been heretofore surrendered to the uses of my will) and all other my real estate to my daughter Jane Challen and her heirs forever. Also all my goods chattles money stock in husbandry and other my personal estate whatsoever after payment of my debts and funeral expences I give and bequeath to my said daughter Jane Challen to be at her disposal and I make her my said daughter sole executrix of this my Will provided nevertheless that in case my said daughter Jane shall happen to dye single and unmarried and without disposing of my said freehold and copyhold and other my real estate by her last Will and Testament or otherwise but shall dye intestate it is my will and desire that my real estate above mentioned shall continue in my family and therefore in such case I give and devise the same real estate or so much thereof as shall not be by the said Jane disposed of as aforesaid unto my two sons Stephen Challen and John Challen and their heirs forever equally to be divided between them as tenants in common to whom I have given no more by this my will because they were provided for by their father but my daughters were not. And lastly I hereby revoke all former Wills by me made. In witness whereof I the said Ann Challen have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy ... Ann Challen.
