WHITEHALL, March 22, 1855. The Queen has been pleased to grant unto George Kirwan Carr, Esquire, Lieutenant-Colonel of the Sussex Royal Artillery Regiment of Militia, only surviving son and heir of the late Right Reverend Robert James Carr, D. D. , Lord Bishop of Worcester, deceased, Her Majesty's royal licence and authority that he and his issue may take and henceforth use the surname of Lloyd, in addition to and after that of Carr, and that he and they may bear the arms of Lloyd quarterly, in the first quarter, with his and their own family arms, in compliance with a proviso in a certain deed of settlement of his paternal aunt, Dame Elizabeth-Ann Lloyd, of Lancing, in the county of Sussex, widow, and relict of the late Sir James Martin to manifest his grateful and affectionate respect for the said Dame Elizabeth-Ann Lloyd ; such arms being first duly exemplified according to the laws of arms, and recorded in the Heralds' Office, otherwise the said licence and permission to be void and of none effect. And also to command that the said royal concession and declaration be registered in Her Majesty's College of Arms.
