Victualling-Office, Sep. 19, 1745 Whereas the Hopewell Sloop of Limington, Robert Newman, Master, laden with Flour, Iron Hoops, Butter, Cheese and Hops, of this Office, for the Supply of his Majesty's Stores at Plymouth was chased ashore on the 7th Instant near Beach Head in Sussex, by a French Privateer: The, Commissioners for Victualling his Majesty’s Navy, give notice, that if any Persons who have saved any of his Majesty’s Provisions or Stores out of the said Sloop, will forthwith bring and deliver them to the Collector of the Customs at Newhaven, or Charles Harrison, Esq; of Seaford in the said County, they shall be allowed Salvage for the same. But as the said Commissioners are determined to proceed with the utmost Severity of the Law against such Persons as may conceal or embezzle any of the Cargo of the said Vessel, they do also hereby promise to any Person or Persons that shall discover to the said Charles Harrison, Esq; at Seaford, or to the Collector of the Customs at Newhaven, where any Part of the Cargo of the said Vessel, which has been carried from her, is concealed and secreted, a Reward of Ten Pounds per Cent. upon the Value of the Goods that shall be so discovered, which Reward will be paid by the said Charles Harrison, Esq, or the Collector of the Customs at Newhaven.
