Whitehall, February 6, 1802 WHereas it has been humbly represented to the King, that some evil disposed Person or Persons did, on the Night of the 27th of January last, or early in the Morning of the 28th, willfully and maliciously set Fire to a Barn and Three Stacks of Hay, the Property of Francis Newbery, Esq; of Heathfield, in the County of Sussex, by which the same were entirely consumed; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to Justice the Persons concerned in the Felony above mentioned, is hereby pleased to premise His most gracious Pardon to any One of them, (except the Person who actually set Fire to the said Barn and Hay Stacks, ) who shall discover his or their Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof. PELHAM. And, as a further Encouragement, a Reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS is hereby offered by the said Francis Newbery ; and a reward of TWENTY-FIVE POUNDS by sundry Inhabitants of the Neigbourhood of Heathfield, in the said County of Sussex, to any Person making such Discovery as aforesaid, (except as is before excepted, ) to be paid on the Conviction of any One or more of the Offenders.
