Will of William Durrant of East Hoathly

In the name of God Amen I William Durrant of the parish of Easthothly in the County of Sussex being very ill in body but blessed be God of sound mind & memory having first recomended my soul to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ trusting solely in his goodness & his sons meritts for its future salvation doe with respect to my worldly goods make this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following vizt. Imprimis I give & bequeath to my Goddaughter Elizabeth the daughter of Jesse Piper of Waldron the sume of thirty pounds. Item I give & bequeath to Jesse Piper the young’r the sume of tenn pounds. Item I give & bequeath to Dorothy, Mary & Anne the daughters of Jesse Piper above said five pounds a piece. Item I give & bequeath to John Durrant of Easthothly the sume of five pounds. As alsoe the same sume of five pounds to each of his children. Item I give & bequeath to William & Joseph the sons of Thomas Durrant of Heathfield the sume of five pounds a piece. Item I give & bequeath to my Godson William Copice the sume of five pounds. Item I give and bequeath to each of the children which were borne to Thomas Adds of Tisehurst by his wife Dorothy the sume of five pounds. Item I give & bequeath to Anne the daughter of William Thompsett of Easthothly the sume of five pounds. Item I give & bequeath to the children of Martine Beaching of Tisehurst as alsoe to the children of Edward Britten of Hollington the sume of five pounds to each. Item I give & bequeath to Martha Daniel in consideration of the service & attendance I have received from her the sume of forty shillings. Item it is my will that each of the legacies above said be paid to the persons to whom they are bequeathed if minors so soon as they come of age if already of age within halfe a year after my decease. Lastly the rest of my estate my just debts & funerall charges first paid I give and bequeath to Jesse Piper the elder of Waldron to Thomas Durrant of Heathfield & to Joseph Durrant of Easthothly whom I constitute ordain & make joynt executors of this my last Will & Testamt. Witness my hand & seale this tenth day of Aprill 1711 (Wm Durrant his marke).

(Latin) The Will of William Durrant late of Easthothly deceased was proved 26 May 1711 before the Rev Thomas Whalley, Clerk, Surrogate by Jesse Piper, Thomas Durrant & Joseph Durrant the executors named in the said Will to whom admon was granted &c.
