Whitehall, February 13, 1795. WHereas it bas been humbly represented to the King, that, at about Eleven o'Clock in the Night of the 7th of December, 1794, a Barn called Sunwool Barn, situate at Heyshott in the County of Sussex, belonging to Mr. John Newman, of Cocking, was discovered to be on Fire, and totally consumed, with a Quantity of Corn therein, and there are very strong Reasons to suspect that the said Barn was maliciously set on Fire by some Person unknown. His Majesty, for the better discovering and bringing to Justice the Person or Persons concerned in setting Fire to the Barn abovementioned, is hereby pleased to promise his most gracious Pardon to any one of them, (except the Person who actually set Fire thereto) who shall discover his or her Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he, she or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof. PORTLAND. And, as a further Encouragement, a Reward of ONE HUNDRED and FITY POUNDS is hereby offered to any Person making such Discovery as aforesaid, (except as is before excepted) to be paid upon Conviction of any One or more of the Offenders, by Mr. Richard Cobden, Bailiff of the Borough of Midhurst. And, as a yet farther Encouragement, an additional Reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS is also hereby offered to any Person making such Discovery (except as aforesaid) to be paid on the abovementioned Conviction, by the Sun Fire Insurance-Office.
