Will of John Juniper of Cuckfield

This is the last will and testament of me John Juniper of the parish of Cuckfield in the county of Sussex in manner following (that is to say) my will is that my son William Juniper and daughter Sarah Jupp do carry on the farm which I now hold for the joint benefit of all my children and the children of my late son John Juniper deceased under the direction of my executors hereafter named as long as the proprietor of the said farm shall permit them and the business can be carried on without loss and that during the time that the business is so carried on that my executors should pay unto my daughter Elizabeth Steyning the sum of seven pounds a year which shall be deducted out of and taken as part of the share of my said daughter Elizabeth Steyning. And also that my said executor shall allow unto my said son William and daughter Sarah a sum of five shillings per week for the support of John and Lydia Juniper my grandchildren if the parish should not allow them the said sum and also should allow such sum as they my executors shall deem proper in case my granddaughters Sarah, Hannah or Elizabeth should by any means become incapable of getting their daily bread which said sums shall be deducted from the share of such child or children respectively as may be the case of such expense and also that my executors shall allow and my son William and daughter Sarah such sums as they may deem proper for their support and wages during the time they are employed in the said business and when from life or notice from the proprietor of the farm my executors shall deem it proper to break up the business and they shall sell all the property and get in all recoverable debts due to my estate and divide equally between my said daughter Sarah Jupp my son William Juniper my daughter Elizabeth Steyning and the children of my said late son John Juniper. These and share alike each to take one fourth part (that as to say) Sarah Jupp one fourth, William Juniper one fourth, Elizabeth Steyning one fourth and the several children of my deceased son John the remaining fourth part after deducting the afore said sum and contingent expenses from the said Elizabeth Steynings share and also from the share of the children of my deceased son and thereby appoint my friends William Uwins and William Brooker joint executors of this my last will and testament and that unpaid executors shall reimburse themselves for any expenses and trouble and time spent in the execution of this my will. In writing whereof I the said testator John Juniper have to this my last will and testament written on the other side of this sheet of paper set my hand redact the top of the other side and my hand

The will of John Juniper late of Cuckfield within the archdeaconry of Lewes Yeoman deceased was proved the twenty third day of May in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two before the reverend John Isobel Clark Surrogate and so forth upon the oath of William Uwins and William Brooker the executors in the said will named to whom was committed the administration of the goods As they being first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same and so forth sworn also that the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased were under the value of six hundred pounds.
