Will of Jeremiah Skinner of Crowhurst

Date signed: 06 Mar 1809, Probate date: 20 Aug 1810

This is the last will and testament of me Jeremiah Skinner the elder of Crowhurst in the county of Sussex, farmer, made and published this sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine in manner following (that is to say), First I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses and the costs and charges of proving and executing this my will be fully paid and discharged. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary the wife of Benjamin Mepham, the sum of one hundred and ten pounds of lawful British money, Also I give and bequeath unto my son Jeremiah Skinner the younger the sum of one hundred and thirty eight pounds of like lawful money. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Skinner the sum of three hundred pounds of like lawful money. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of David Jones, the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of like lawful money. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sophia the wife of David Jones, the sum of one hundred and forty five pounds of like lawful money. Also I give and bequeath unto my son William Skinner the sum of two hundred and eighty pounds of like lawful money. Also all the rest, residue and remainder of my ready money, securities for money rights, credits, household goods and implements of household stock, cattle, husbandry, goods and tackle and all and singular other my goods, chattels, estate and effects of whatsoever nature or kind and wheresoever which I shall die possessed of or interested in or which shall be anyways due owing or belonging to me at the time of my decease I give and bequeath unto and amongst my sons and daughters John Skinner, the said Mary Mepham, Jeremiah Skinner the younger, Thomas Skinner and Elizabeth Jones, Sarah the wife of John Pocock and the said Sophia Jones and William Skinner equally to be divided between them my said sons and daughters, John Skinner, Mary Mepham, Jeremiah Skinner the younger, Thomas Skinner, Elizabeth Jones, Sarah Pocock, Sophia Jones and William Skinner, share and share alike. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my good friend Thomas Lansdell of Bexhill in the county of Sussex, yeoman, and my said son Jeremiah Skinner, the younger, joint executors of this my will and revoking all other wills by me heretofore made I hereby declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Jeremiah Skinner the testator have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.

 Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said testator Jeremiah Skinner as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other, the word “manner” being first interlined.

20th August 1810 then were sworn Thomas Landell and Jeremiah Skinner the executors named in this will to whom was committed the burthen of the execution thereof sworn also that the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased do not amount in value unto 3000£.
