Will of Richard Banks of Falmer

In the name of God Amen I Richard Banks of Falmer in the county of Sussex, yeoman, being sick in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, praised be God for it. I do make and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following, imprimis. I give my soul into the hands of Almighty God steadfastly believing through the merits of my blessed saviour to obtain free pardon of all sins.

Item – I give and devise to my son Richard Banks, to him and his heirs for ever, all that messuage or tenements I now live in with two Crofts containing by estimation three acres and one rod together with the garden and appurtenances to the farm belonging (in Falmer parish) with house and two Crofts formerly my father Walter Banks;

Item – I give to my son Henry Banks to him and his heirs for ever all that parcel of customary lands called Shotiscroft containing by estimation four acres with the appurtenances in Chalvington parish more or less;James Banks to him and his heirs for ever all that messuage or hereditaments and croft, with half a boary of land lying in the common lands of Falmer with the appurtenances to the said messuage and half boary of land belonging late Haushiers [-?-], the house being in the possession of one William Midgley;

Item – I give and devise to my daughter Mary Banks all that messuages or tenements now in the possession of Samuel Parker with the garden and pieces [-?-] with the appurtenances hereto belonging, late Berbetts [-?-] formerly Bridges;

Item – I give to my daughter Mary Banks half my goods in my house I now live in;

Item – I give unto my wife Sarah Banks the best bed in my house with the blankets, curtains, [-?-], one pair of sheets and the furniture to the bed belonging;

And of this my last will and testament I do hereby make and declare my loving brother Walter Banks sole executor, it being my will and meaning that the rest of the household goods and store not before given, be sold and disposed of by my said executor to and for the benefit of all my said children equally divided between them. In witness whereof I have this nine and twentieth day of July one thousand six hundred ninety and nine set my hand and seal and then published and declared this to be my last will and testament.
