This is the last Will and Testament of me John Noakes of Burwash in the County of Sussex Yeoman made this twenty third day of May in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Seven and in the thirty Sixth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain ffrance and Ireland King defender of the ffaith and so forth ffirst and Principally I Commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping for Pardon and remission of my sins and eternal Life through the merits of my blessed Saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as to the Worldly Estate and Effects which God hath intrusted me with I give and dispose of them as follows (that is to say)I Will and direct that all my just Debts & ffunerall expences and Charges of proving this my Will and also all the just debts and ffunerall expences of my late Son Edward Noakes deceased be in the first place fully Paid and Satisfied by my Executors hereinafter named and I do hereby Charge and Subject all my Personal Estate.......... and with all the just debts and ffunerall expences of my said late Son Edward Noakes deceased I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Sons and daughters William Noakes Robert Noakes Mary Apps ffrancis Cruttenden Elizabeth Henty Ann Hiscock Hester Putland John Noakes and George Noakes their Executors Administrators and Assigns all and every my ready monies and securities for money Household Goods Implements of Household Plate Linen China Books Goods Chattels debts effects and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever the same may be whereof I shall die possessed interested in or intitled unto and which shall be in any Ways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my decease and also my Estate and Interest therein To hold the same and every part thereof (subject as aforesaid) unto my said Sons and daughters William Noakes Robert Noakes Mary Apps ffrancis Cruttenden Elizabeth Henty Ann Hiscock Hester Putland John Noakes and George Noakes and to their several and respective Executors Administrators and Assigns and for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike and I do hereby make nominate Constitute and appoint my said Son Robert Noakes and my Son in Law Thomas Cruttenden joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke and make void all former and other Wills and Codicils by me at any time or times heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said John Noakes the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper set my Hand and Seal the Day and Year first above written Jno Noakes Signed Sealed Published and declared by the above named John Noakes the Testator to and for his last Will and Testament ........
