Whitehall, November 22, 1797. The King has been pleased to grant to John Tilden, of Battle in the County of Sussex, Gent. And the Heirs Male of his Body, His Royal Licence and Authority to use the Surname of Sampson in Addition to his own, and also to bear the Arms of Sampson, pursuant to the last Will and Testament of his Kinsman, Richard Sampson, late of Ninfield in the said County of Sussex, Gent, deceased ; such Arms being first duly exemplified according to the Laws of Arms and recorded in the Heralds Office : And also to order that this His Majesty's Concession and Declaration be registered in his College of Arms.
