Notes:

War Office, 3rd September, 1918, His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve, of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Men, for gallantry and distinguished service in the field:— 200023 C. S. M. B. A. Stone, R. Suss. R. (Bognor). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This W. O. , who was in charge of a platoon, showed marked ability and great coolness throughout the operations. At a very critical period the tenacity with which he held the line with his men delayed the enemy, and enabled our troops to effect an orderly retirement, he himself, with this command, under shell-fire of great intensity, only withdrawing on orders from his company officer. He was of the greatest assistance to his officers. His good leadership inspired his men with confidence, and his courage and cheerfulness under most trying circumstances were the admiration of all ranks.
