Notes about this will:

Archdeaconry Court of Chichester

JOHN TALME – the Testator. John’s birth/baptism details are not known at present. As he first married in 1665 he was possibly born around 1640. John apparently married three times:

i) On 1 May 1665 he married Mary Sondes in West Chiltington. Mary was buried in West Chiltington on 12 September 1689.

ii) On 31 December 1689 a John Talmy of West Chiltington married Jane Grevat, a widow, in West Chiltington, by licence. Jane was buried in West Chiltington on 25 January 1698/9.

iii) On 14 January 1699/1700 John Talmee of West Chiltington married Mary Brooker, a widow, in Billingshurst. She seems to have survived her husband, but nothing further is currently known about her. John was buried in Chiltington on 31 January 1707/8.

HENRY FIEST – Son in law of the Testator. On 12 June 1701 Henry Feast married Elizabeth Talmy in West Chiltington. She had been baptised in West Chiltington on 23 April 1676. Elizabeth is not mentioned in her father’s Will, so she may have been dead by then, although Henry had further children after 1707. Possibly Elizabeth wasn’t dead, or Henry remarried. No record of Elizabeth’s death or a further marriage for Henry have been found to date. There are records for the burial of Henry Feest in West Chiltington on 17 September 1743, and 30 November 1746. One was presumably this Henry and the other, his son.

HENRY, JAMES & MARY FIEST – Grandchildren of the Testator. Henry was baptised in West Chiltington on 1 November 1704. He apparently died either in 1743 or 1746 {see above under his father). James was baptised in West Chiltington on 1 April 1707. Mary’s baptism record has not been found to date.

RICHARD TALMY – Son of the Testator. Richard was baptised in West Chiltington on 25 May 1673. Was he the Richard Talmy who married Mary Tully in Ashington on 17 April 1694? Their first known child was baptised in West Chiltington on 23 January 1695. 3 children were born in West Chiltington before Richrd moved, with his family to Billingshurst, and Pulborough, where further children were born. No record of Richard’s burial has been traced to date.

RICHARD KEEPING – Son in Law of the Testator. On 8 October Mary Talmay married Richard Keeping in Shipley.parish church. The couple lived in Shipley, where they had at least 7 children. Mary was buried in Shipley on 18 July 1714. Richard was buried there on 8 January 1714/5. His burial records that he was a pauper.
