The tenth day of November one thousand six hundred and nine I John Attree of Barcombe in the county of Sussex being lame in body but of perfect and sound memory praised be god therefore so ordained and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul unto god almighty my maker ......? my redeemer and the holy ghost my saviour and my body unto the earth from whence it came and ......? the distribution of my worldly goods. First I give unto the poor of Barcombe ten shillings to be distributed by the overseer for the poor for that tyme being. I give and bequeath unto Richard Attree my oldest sonne twenty pounds to be paid unto him within one year after my death, them I give and bequeath unto my same son Richard my biggest brass pott, one pewter platter and one pewter dish and the chest standing at my bedd feet with one paire sheets then I give and bequeath unto my same sonne Richard fiftie pounds conditionally that he shall make to William Attree my younger son full and of good estate as he hath or ran make of the meadow called the Hopp Mead to be and remain for William and his heirs forever. Then I will and bequeath unto my second sonne Thomas Attree one joined bedsteddle standing in the chamber were he did use to lodge, with the feather bed, the feather bolster and two paire of sheetes, one blanket and one coverlet to the bed belonging. I give unto my son Thomas one joined chest where I ever kept the ...? and one other little chest standing next unto him. I will unto Henry Heasman my son in law his six children twenty pounds to be divided equally between them to be payed to their father within one year of my death whom shall put it out for the best profit for them until they shall amount to the age of one and twenty years and then liberally and proportionally to pay it unto them if they shall amount to one and twenty years and if they shall die before their tyme as they shall amount to full age my will and meaning is that the remainder of them shall equally divide the syme equally according to the tyme before ....? I will unto Nicholas Attree of Ditchlling taylor twenty shillings. I give unto Richard ....? my servant twenty shillings and a goat and a lamb and to ....? one to ....? his brothers and sisters tenne shillings to be paid unto my overseer within one year of my demise to the mother of the said children to be paid unto them at the age of fifteen years. I will unto Ann Attree my granddaughter and Godchild five pound to be paid unto her at the age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which first shall happen. Then my will and meaning is that my executor here under named shall keep Elizabeth Stretfield so long as she shall live with sufficient and competent .....? and apparel and as be shall ...? to be done he shall pay unto her ten pounds and two paires sheetes the which I am bound to. I give unto every one of my godchildren in this parish twelve pence. Then I give unto Edward Stretfield my godson three shillings four pence. Then I give unto Ann Attree my goddaughter daughter of Richard Attree of Keymer tenne shillings, then I give unto Jane Heaseman my daughter the gold ring which was her mothers and ten shillings in money. Then I give unto Dorothie Paine my daughter in law on paire of sheets. Then I will unto my son Thomas Attree my best kettle two pewter platters and one pewter dishes. All the rest of my goods and chattels not given nor bequeathed my debts and legacies settled and burial performed, I give unto William Attree my youngest son whom I name my whole and sole executor to this my last and will testament. I do nominate William Newton and Henry Hesman of Barcombe to be overseers to this my last will and testament and I give unto them tenne shillings a peice.
