Cuckfield is a village situated 12 miles from the south coast at Brighton and 38 miles from London, set high on the Weald of Sussex.

Pronounced Cookfield, the village dates back to Saxon times. It was first written Kukefeld in 1092, followed by Cucufeld in 1121.

In Broad Street, the former Congregational Providence Chapel was established 1821. It is now closed and used for offices. There was also once a Methodist Church in London Road, but has now closed. The Baptist Chapel, built in 1772, is still thriving in Polestub Lane.
