Will of Georgius Standen of Salehurst

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN this fifth day of July in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred sixty and three, George Standen of Salehurst in the County of Sussex, tanner, being sick in body but of perfect soul and memory thanks be given unto God do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my only Savior and redeemer hoping in his merits to have everlasting life and my body to the Earth from whence it was taken.

IMPRIMIO I give unto Sarah Polhill, daughter of William Polhill, the sum of forty four pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within three months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto Richard Martayne my brother the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto William Pothill the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto George Polhill the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto John Polhill the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto Herbert Polhill the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto Thomas Polhill, son of William Polhill of Ticehurst, late deceased and brother unto the aforenamed William Pohill, George Polhill, John Polhill, and Herbert Polhill the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within three months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

AND whereas Herbert Standen did by his last will and testament give unto me half his moveable goods and chattells1 as by that will it may word plainly appear my mind and will is that Sarah Polhill, William Polhill, George Polhill, John Polhill, Herbert Polhill, Thomas Polhill, and Susanna Polhill, sons and daughters of the aforenamed William Polhill, aforesaid deceased, shall have the aforesaid chattels and goods equally divided between them.

Item I give unto Susanna Polhill, daughter of the aforenamed William Polhill, the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within six months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto Martha Chambers daughter of Robert Chambers of Salehurst, tanner, the sum of two pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within three months after my decease by my executor hereafter named.

Item I give unto the poor of the parish of Salehurst the sum of one pound and ten shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto the hands of the churchwardens or overseers within three weeks after my decease to the intent that it may be distributed equally among the poor of the aforesaid parish the next Sunday after.

All the rest of my moveable goods and chattels my debts legacies and funeral expenses being satisfied and paid I give unto William Polhill and George Polhill whom I make and ordain my only whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament desiring Robert Chambers and John Polhill to be overseers of this my last will and testament. And I give John Polhill for his pain twenty shillings to be paid by my aforesaid executors.
