Will of John Heasman of Ticehurst

In the name of God, Amen, the 25th day of January Anno Dom: 1732, I John Heasman of Tyshurst in the county of Sussex, chirurgeon, being weak of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my present last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say, first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping through the merits death and passion of my saviour Jesus Christ, to have full and free pardon of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life, and my body I commit to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and touching the disposition of all such temporal estate as it hath pleased almighty God to bestow upon me, I give and dispose thereof as followeth;

Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Heasman all my household goods and wearing apparel, and my will and mind is that my watch and my mare should be sold to the best advantage by my executors hereafter named, and my will and mind is that the remainder of the money shall be given to my beloved wife, when all my just debts are paid;

Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hanna Heasman, fifty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to be paid to her at the age of one and twenty years, but if my said daughter Hanna Heasman should die before she comes to the age of one and twenty, then my will and mind is that my brother Stephen Russell’s four children: Ann Russell, Elizabeth Russell, Stephen Russell and Debora Russell shall have ten pounds apiece to be paid them when they come to the age of one and twenty years and the other ten pounds my will and mind is shall be given to my beloved wife Sara Heasman if she shall be then alive, and if not, then my will and mind is that it shall be equally divided between the four mentioned four children, and I do make my brother Thomas Heasman my full, whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament and I do make void all other wills by me made or declared, and this only to be taken for my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written …
