Will of John Hart of Westfield

In the name of God Amen, I John Hart of Westfield in the county of Sussex at present a sojourner at Eastbourne in the said county of Sussex, being sick and weak but of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this present life do think fit to make this my last will and testament.

First, I recommend my soul to God that gave it in hope of a future resurrection to life eternal through the merits of my saviour Jesus Christ; my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the prudence and discretion of my executor herein after named.

And as for my worldly goods and chattels which I am possessed of, I give, devise and dispose thereof as followeth:

First I devise, give and bequeath to my nephew John Hart son of my brother Joseph Hart all that my lease hold house situate and being in the said parish of Westfield to him and his heirs for ever, Also I give and bequeath to my eldest sister Mary now the wife of Richard French of Chittingly in the said county of Sussex the sum of Eight Pounds lawful money of Great Britain to be paid by my executor

And also to my youngest sister Sarah wife of John Ackhurst of Alfriston, forty shillings to be paid also by the same

And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said brother Joseph Hart of Westfield aforesaid whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills,

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of July one thousand seven hundred thirty five.
