Will of Richard Harraden of West Grinstead

In the name of God Amen the sixteenth day of March one Thousand six hundred Fiftie two I RICHARD HARRENDEN of WESTGREENSTEAD in the County of Sussex yeoman beinge sicke of body but of good and perfect memory thanks be given to God therefore doe make and ordaine this to be my last will and Testament in manner and forme following Firste I give and bequeath my Soule unto Allmightie God hopeinge to be Saved by the merritts death and passion of Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer And my body to be buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter menc[i]oned

Item I give to the poore of the parish of WESTGREENSTEAD aforesaid the sum[m]e of tenn shillings to be paid unto them by myne Executrix within twelve moneths next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters MARY and ELIZABETH the Sum[m]e of Fiftie pound s apeece to be paid unto them when they shall accomplish theire severall ages of one and twenty yeares And if either of them shall happen to die before they shall accomplish theire said severall ages of one and twenty yeares that then I will and bequeath the porc[i]on of her soe dyeing to the other which shall Survive

And my will is that my Executrix shall have the educating and bringing upp of my Said two daughters untill they shallaccomplish the age aforesaid and shall have the use and increase of theire Said porc[i]ons for and towards theire education and bringing upp

Item I will and bequeath unto my youngest daughter MARGARETT two shillings six pence to be paid unto her when she shall accomplish her age of one [and] twenty yeares

All the residue of my goods and Chattells my debts beinge paid and my funerall Expences discharged I give unto MARGARETT my wife whome I make my Sole Executrix and I doe nominate and appoint my brother in law RICHARD AWOOD and my brother in lawe THOMAS COOPER my Overseers and I doe give them for theire paines the Sum[m]e of tenn shillings apeece

In Witnes whereof I the said RICHARD HARRENDEN have hereunto Sett my hand and Seale the day and yeare first above written RICHARD HARRENDEN his marke published and declared in the presence of us JOHN FORDE ANNE NALDRETT her marke

This will was proved at Westminster the two and twentieth day of June in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Six hundred Fiftie three before the Judges for probate of wills and grantinge Administrac[i]onsaccording to an Act of Parliament Entitled an Act for probate of wills and grantinge Administrac[i]ons by the oath of MARGARETT HARRENDEN the Relict of the said deceased and Sole Executrix named in the said will To whome was Comitted Administracion of all and singularthe goods Chattells and debts of the said deceased she beinge first legally sworne (by Commission) truly to Administer the same
