Agnes Wolvin – The Testator

She was the widow of Richard Wolvin, who had died in 1631/2. No marriage has been traced for them to date, but Richard was previously married to Sarah Farlie, who died in 1616, so the marriage was presumably a year or 2 after that. It appears that Agnes was possibly a widow at the time of her marriage to Richard Wolvin, as her eldest son was called John Branch. Agnes was appointed Executrix of her husband’s Will. She was buried in West Grinstead on 20 April 1655.

John Wolvin – Son of the Testator

His baptism record has not been traced to date, but as Richard describes him as his eldest son he was presumably born in the late 1610s or beginning of the 1620’s as the third son Thomas was born 1625/6. The baptisms between 1608-22 are missing from the parish register. There are Bishops Transcripts covering some of the missing years, but these show no baptism of John or his brother Richard (see below). However, there are years missing among these and John and Richard may well have been born during these gaps, possibly in 1619 and 1621 respectively. He was probably the John Wolvin who moved to Lyminster, where he was buried on 22 April 1679.

Richard Wolvin Son of the Testator

He was possibly born in 1621 (see above). He was described as his father’s second son in his father’s Will (1631/2). He date and place of marriage are currently unknown, but he apparently married someone called Anne. He died between 1672/3 – 1674, although no burial record has been traced for him to date.

Thomas Wolvin – Son of the Testator

Thomas was baptised in West Grinstead on 1 January 1625/6, son of Richard. Thomas left England to go ‘beyond the Seas’, presumably to North America? In her Will (1655), his mother, Agnes, left him £10 and half the linen and pewter, one joined chest and a feather bed, if he should ever return. If not it was all to go to Agnes’ executor, her daughter, Joan.
