In the Name of god amen the xth daie of Aprill in the vth yere of the reigne of owre sovereigne lorde Edwarde the Sixth* by the grace of god of England France and Ireland Defender of the Faith And in the yearthe[?] of the church of England and Ireland the Supreme hed and in the yere of owre Lorde god 1561 I RICHARD ARENOLDE of BYNE in the p[ar]ishe of WEST GRNSTED in the countie of Sussex yeoma[n] beinge sicke in boddie but whole in mynde thanks be to god Allmightie do ordayne and make This my p[re]sent Testamente and Laste Will in mann[er] and forme following Fyrst I bequethe my Soule unto allmightie god besechinge all the holly company of heaven to praye for me and my boddie to the yerthe to be buried in the churche yarde of WESTGRINSTED aforesaid

It[e]m I will to THOMAS my sonne all my woods and under woods If he may peaseablye enioye them So that he paye or cause to be payde unto RICHARDE my sonne and GEORGE my sonne when they shall accomplishe the age of xxi yeres ye Sume of xx£ of lawfull monye to be equallye devyded betwene them And yf RICHARDE my sonne happen to dye before he shall accomplishe his said age That then the said xx£ to be equally devyded betwen GEORGE my sonne and JAMES my Sonne And yf yt happen that GEORGE my Sonne dye before he shall accomplishe his said age that then I will the said xx£ be equallye devyded between RICHARD my sonne & JAMES my sonne. And I will to RICHARD my sonne moreov[er] in monye or monye worthe x£ to be payde to hym at th’age of xxi yeres

It[e]m I will to GEORGE my sonne more over in monye or other goods xiii£ vis viiid at thage aforesaid

It[e]m I geve to JAMES my sonne x£ at thage of xxi yeres And I will my executore to paye his fyne when he shalbe admitted to his coppy holde w[hi]ch he shall holde of the Mannor of Bydlington

It[e]m I geve to PETER HUNTE my sonne in lawe ii Steares to yocke of iiii yeres olde & iii kyne It[e]m I will the same PETER to have thone halfe of my lande in KNEPPE untyll my said sonne RICHARD shall come to his full age of xxi yeres

It[e]m I will that THOMAS my sonne have th’other halfe of my lande in KNEPPE untyll my said sonne RICHARD come to his full age of xxi yeres to the p[er]formance of this my last will & testament Provyded all wayes yf anye of my saide Chyldren dep[ar]ts or dye before they accomplyshe their said ages That then I will and my mynde is that thone half of their portionremayning to THOMAS my sonne and thither half to remayne to the rest of my Chyldren w[hi]ch shall happen to Survyve or ou[t] lyve

the rest of my goods unbequeathed my debts payde and my legacs p[er]formed I geve them to THOMAS my Sonne whome I make my sole and onlye executor of this my last wyll & testame[n]t And I ordeyne and make

S[i]r THOMAS WEST Knyghte of the honerable order of the garter & Lord LA WARE & WM COMBER of SHERMANSBURYE my sup[er]visers and overseers of this my last will and testament And I geve to the right honourable S[i]r THOMAS WEST as well for my heriot xs and for a Release xs as for his paynes and good endevore my great mare and to WILL[IA]M COMBER for his paynes and good endevore xxs

* Edward is the monarch mentioned in this Will, although the actual monarch in 1561 was his sister Elizabeth! Was the Will actually made in 1551 (which would have been the 5th year of Edward Vis reign), and was 1561 written in the transcription because that was the year in which the Will was proved, and perhaps the transcriber got confused!
