In the name of God Amen, the twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our lord 1577 I Reinold Hornbie of the parish of Warbleton in the county of Sussex and within the diocese of Chichester being sick of body but whole of mind and of perfect remembrance thanks be to Almighty God do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my creator believing and trusting that by the merits and death of his son Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer to be partaker of the Kingdom of Heaven and to have a joyful resurrection both of body and soul and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Warbleton.

Item I will to Richard my son £3 of good and lawful money of England to be paid out of the profit of my house and land when he cometh to the age of sixteen years, and I do also will that my overseers shall have the putting forth of my son's aforesaid stock of £3 to the most advantage they can to the use of my son from his age of sixteen years till the coming to the age of ? 23/24 years ….. but …...

Item I will to Thomas my son one tvelvemonthing ? ewe/hog to be delivered by my executrix at the feast of St John Baptist next after my decease into the hands of my overseers.

Item I will to Richard my son one twelvemonthing teg ewe being with lamb and her lamb to be delivered as before is said of my other son's share.

Item I will to Richard CHELLY and Roger ELYARD receive the rent of my house and land during the time of twenty-one years for the use of my wife and the bringing up of my children at their disposition as they shall think best.

Item I will to Richard CHELLY and Roger ELLYARD my black mare for their pains.

All the residue of my goods and chattels my debts and legacies paid and my children brought up in the fear of God and my will fulfilled I will to Jone my wife whom I make my sole executrix of this &c. I do also request and desire Richard CHELLY and Roger ELLIARD to be my trusty overseeers of this &c.
