Name: Ninfield.

Ninfield gives the name to an hundred ; is in Hailsham union and Hastings rape ; it is five miles from Battle, and nine from Hastings, and contained in 1851 a population of 571. The village is delightfully situated on a hill, and commands rich and interesting prospects of the vicinity. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is seated on an eminence near the village, and is a remarkably plain structure. The benefice is a vicarage, in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury, and in the incumbency of the Rev. George Rainer, M.A.
