Newhaven lies on the coast, at the end of the valley carved through the South Downs by the River Ouse. Over the centuries the river mouth has migrated between Newhaven and Seaford in response to the growth and decay of a shingle spit (shoal) at its mouth.
At one time there were three Anglican churches in the town, all with their own parishes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The ancient church is dedicated St Michael and All Angels. The site of the demolished Christ Church is now occupied by the Police Station and St Wilfrid's (on the East Side over the river) is also long gone.
Church details, together with baptism, marriage, monumental inscription & burial records can be accessed by clicking on the church name.
