Harrison's description (1911):

Restored in 1861. The lofty embattled tower of this E.E. church is striking. The S. porch is of oak with wooden tiles, and over the W. porch are the arms of the Etchinghams and Culpepers. Note: the lancets of clerestory; iron tombstones of the 17th c.; two piscinæ; font (late 12th c.) with three salamanders round base, and a wooden cover; opening to rood loft. Dec. and Perp. windows have been inserted at later periods. In chancel, note: old altar stone from Robertsbridge Abbey, serving as pedestal to credence table.

Salehurst Abbey Farm has some fragments of a Cistercian Abbey, founded in 1175. The groined double crypt is now used as a dairy. The mutilated effigy of Sir Edward Dalyngrudge, who built Bodiam Castle, was found here and removed to Lewes Museum.
