Several members of the Sargent family played in the band of the Salvation Army. A. Ridel, in his book of Ninfield in the Nineties, tells of Sunday evenings in the summer when a drumhead service was held on The Green.
At one time there was a Salvation Army Chapel in Manchester Road.
