Southgate, (West Sussex)

The parish of Southgate covers 4 neighbourhoods in the south of Crawley: Southgate, Broadfield, Furnace Green and Tilgate. Broadfield is an urban area developed in the 1970s and 1980s in a series of estates. Southgate and Furnace Green are more suburban in their feel, built mainly in the 1960's and 1970's. Tilgate was the earliest of the neighbourhoods, built when Crawley was first conceived as a New Town in the 1950's.
