It is simple to volunteer to be an Online Parish Clerk for a Parish in Sussex, however please take the time to read the comprehensive information on this site regarding the scheme, how it works and the responsibilities of a volunteer before contacting the administrator.
The most common question we are asked is to do with sourcing material to transcribe from. Unfortunately we are not currently in a position to manage this centrally, and volunteers must make their own arrangements. If you would like to volunteer to help manage this aspect of the work - please contact us urgently! However much information is in the public domain already in a photographic form and there are other schemes running which are happy for transcribers to share their work with us in addition to their own scheme (e.g. FreeBMD, FreeCEN, FreeReg).
If there are any remaining questions, please don't hesitate to contact us for more information. If not and you wish to proceed:
1. Download the volunteer form to your PC by right clicking on the following link and selecting "Save target as ..."
If your word processor cannot open a Microsoft Word document, please contact the co-ordinator who will be pleased to supply the form in an alternative format.
2. Fill the form in (one per parish please) with all your details. Email the OPC coordinator using this link:
After receiving your email, the OPC co-ordinator will reply requesting you to send in the completed form.
3. After receiving the form, the co-ordinator will contact you to clarify how you would like to operate your OPC pages and to discuss how and where any on-line information you have may be published.
If your first choice parish is already 'taken', then why not get together with the existing volunteer to speed up the progress!
Thank you in advance for agreeing to become a Sussex Online Parish Clerk!
If you support our aims and have access to source information, then please consider volunteering to be a transcriber - we need all the help we can find, there is much to do! Perhaps you already have some information you have transcribed and are willing to share through the scheme - please get in touch!
Also, if you have source documents (or photocopies of source documents) that you are unable to transcribe yourself, please contact us to discuss finding a transcriber to help make the information available on this web site.
