Privacy Policy

Website content

Following inquiries from visitors to this web site concerned about identity theft, it has been decided to publicise our information privacy policy.

It is believed that all of the information made available on this website is already in the public domain. None of the information concerns personal financial details or other information useful to identity thieves.

However, it is recognised that despite this, some may be nervous about some of the information available in the public record being made available in this easily searchable format. Therefore, as we are keen to avoid offending the sensitivities of living persons, some personal information for events happening less than 75 years ago has been withheld.

Typically the witheld information includes address and occupation information and, for baptisms, the names of the mother and father. A message will be shown on the screen when information is being witheld.

This additional information must now be gleaned by reference to the original documents or from the OPC for the parish.

Your comments regarding this privacy policy are welcomed, whether you favour a more restrictive or more open approach. The policy will be reviewed periodically.

Advertisements

This website contains non-intrusive advertisements (typically at the bottom of the page) which raise a small sum of money which sometimes covers the monthly hosting cost!

We use a third-party advertising company, Google, to serve ads when you visit our website. Google may use information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and would like to know your options in relation to not having this information used in this way, click here.

The advertisements below are served by Google; the very small revenue generated when people click on them sometimes covers the cost of hosting the Sussex OPC website.
