INSTRUMENT substituting the New Church of Saint John, within the Parish of Bognor, for the Old Church thereof, in the County of Sussex, and Diocese of Chichester.

To all to whom these presents shall come, the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England send greeting :

WHEREAS a new church has lately been built within the parish of Bognor, in the county of Sussex, and in the diocese of Chichester, and has been consecrated and dedicated to Saint John. And whereas the Right Reverend Richard, Bishop of the said diocese of Chichester, and the Right Honourable and Most Reverend Edward White, Archbishop of Canterbury, the patron in right of his See of the said parish of Bognor, and the Reverend Robert Biscoe Tritton, the Vicar or Incumbent of the same parish, have, by an instrument under their hands, bearing date on or about the eighteenth day of January, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, certified to us, the said Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, that it would be for the convenience of the said parish of Bognor that the said new church of Saint John, situate within such parish, should be substituted for the old parish church (also dedicated to Saint John) of the same parish.

Now, therefore, we, the said Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, in exercise and execution of the power or authority in that behalf contained in the Act of the eighth and ninth years of Her present Majesty, chapter seventy, and in the Act of the nineteenth and twentieth years of Her said Majesty," chapter fifty-five, and of all other powers or authorities in anywise enabling us in the same behalf, do, by this instrument under our common seal, with the consents (testified as hereinafter mentioned) of the said Richard, Bishop of the said diocese of Chichester, and of the said Edward White, Archbishop of Canterbury, and of the said Robert Biscoe Tritton, hereby declare that the said new church of Saint John, situate within the said parish of Bognor, and duly consecrated as aforesaid, shall be, and the same is hereby, substituted for the said old parish church (dedicated to Saint John as aforesaid) of the same parish, and that such new church shall henceforth be the parish church of the said parish of Bognor in lieu of the said old parish church of the same, as fully in all respects as if the said new church of Saint John, so hereby substituted, had been originally the parish church of the same parish.

And we, the said Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, in further pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities aforesaid, and with such consents as aforesaid (testified as hereinafter mentioned), do hereby transfer all the endowments, emoluments, and rights of or belonging to the said old parish church (dedicated to Saint John as aforesaid) of the said parish of Bognor, or of or belonging to the Vicar or Incumbent thereof, to the said new church of Saint John (now being by virtue of these presents the parish church of the said parish of Bognor) and to the Vicar or Incumbent thereof and his successors for ever.

In witness whereof to these presents we, the said Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, have set our common seal, and the said Richard, Bishop of the said diocese of Chichester, has set his hand and affixed his episcopal seal, and the said Edward White, Archbishop of Canterbury, has set his hand and affixed his episcopal seal, and the said Robert Biscoe Tritton has set his hand and affixed his seal this sixth day of May, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.
