Brede

BREDE is a very pleasant village situated on an eminence, about six miles from Battle, and seven from Hastings. The church is an ancient and interesting structure, contains many monuments and brasses of great antiquity. The living is a rectory, in the diocese of Chichester, and incumbency of the Rev. A. Aylward. Brede Place is an ancient mansion, and has a commanding appearance. Fairs are held annually on Easter Tuesday, for cattle and pedlery. The population in 1851 was 1059.
