Beckley

BECKLEY is a parish in the hundred of Goldspur, rape of Hastings, diocese of Chichester, archdeaconry of Lewes, and deanery of Dallington, 6 ½ miles west-north-west from Rye. The living is a rectory, value £850 per annum, and in the patronage of the Master and Fellows of University College, Oxford; the Rev. Wm. Glaister, M.A., is the incumbent. The church is dedicated to All Saints. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. Here is a National school. The river Rother bounds this parish on the north, separating the county of Sussex from Kent. The area is 5,540 acres, and the population, in 1851, was 1,342.
