Willingdon is a parish in the union of Eastbourne, and rape of Pevensey; the village is pleasantly situated on the road from Eastbourne to Lewes, 2 miles north from the former, and 18 miles from the latter; it is small, and sheltered on the west by the range of South Downs, which runs south to the coast, from which place it is 4 miles. The church, with part of the village, is situated upon a gentle rise, and commanding views of the whole of Pevensey bay. The benefice is a vicarage, value £67 per annum, in the patronage of the Dean & Chapter of Chichester. The church is principally built of flint. The village gives name to the hundred. The area is 3,500 acres, and the population 621, assessed at £5,163.
Folkington is a small village and parish situated under the Downs, 4 miles from Eastbourne, and 11 from Lewes; it consists of a few houses. The benefice is a rectory, value £190, in the patronage of Earl De la Warr. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is a small building. It is in the Longbridge hundred, Eastbourne union and Pevensey rape, with 2,110 acres, and a population of 198, assessed at £1,627.
Jevington is a parish in the union of Eastbourne, hundred of Willingdon, and rape of Pevensey, 5 miles south-west from Hailsham, and 10 south-east from Lewes; the village is small; it consists of a few houses, and situated under the range of the South Downs, about half a mile west of the road from Lewes to Eastbourne. The church dedicated to St. Andrew, is a small ancient structure. The area is 1,790 acres, and the population 329, assessed at £1,807. The benefice is a rectory, value £309 per annum, in the patronage of the Earl of Burlington.
