Chiddingly is an extensive parish and village, 10 miles east from Lewes, and 7 south-east from Uckfield, in the hundred of Shiplake, and rape of Pevensey. Chiddingly Place is a very ancient mansion. The church, which is near the centre of the parish, is an ancient structure; it contains several monuments. The area is 5,200 acres, and a population of 930, in 1841, assessed to the Income Tax, in 1841, at £4,073. the benefice is a vicarage, value £158 per annum, and in the patronage of the Countess of Plymouth; Rev.
